Homemade Calendula Balm

Calendula balm is versatile and made with just a few simple ingredients. We use this balm as a hand cream (especially after gardening) and a lip balm. It is infused with calendula which is known to aid in healing wounds and soothing irritated skin

a jar of homemade calendular balm

Ingredients

Dried calendula flower petals to fill 2/3 of a glass jar (can also use lavender).

20g beeswax (available from your local hardware store or beekeeper)

100g extra virgin olive oil

Method

Infused oil

  1. Fill 2/3 of a glass jar with dried calendula flower petals and olive oil.

  2. Leave in a sunny position to infuse for up to a month shaking occasionally to ensure the petals are mixed through the oil.

Making the balm

  1. Strain the infused oil to separate the petals from the oil.

  2. Add wax and oil to a small saucepan. melt down on a very low heat.

  3. Once melted, pour into a small jar. After a few minutes or when the oil is cool but still in liquid form, give it a final mix to ensure the wax and oil do not separate while setting. Leave for a few hours before using.

Enjoy using as a hand cream, lip balm or even an after shave!
